Chinese Lockdown - A fresh blow for Supply Chains

Current fresh lockdowns across China, including Shanghai, Tianjin, Qingdao, Dalian and Xiamen, could have major repercussions, impacting on the global supply chain, and affecting the lives of millions of Chinese citizens.

The port of Shanghai, for example, handles the equivalent of 140,000 cargo containers per day. The Chinese government has finally decided to put Shanghai under lockdown for further mass testing from 28th March until 5th April.

Last year a one month slow-down at another major Chinese port, Yantian, caused a backlog of thousands of seafreight containers.

The lockdowns will inevitably impact on the ability for shippers to load containers as planned and meet vessel departure dates.
